Duolingo can certainly help you become proficient in a language. But becoming fluent is a different story.
Here’s the thing: Duolingo is designed to help you learn the basics of a language. And it does a great job at that. But becoming fluent in a language requires a lot more than just knowing the basics.
Fluency is about being able to use the language in a natural way, like a native speaker. It’s about being able to understand and be understood in a variety of situations. And it’s about being able to express yourself clearly and confidently in the language.
All of that is much harder to achieve than just learning the basics. And it’s why becoming fluent in a language can take years, even for people who are naturally gifted language learners.
So, can Duolingo make you fluent?
Maybe. But don’t expect it to happen overnight. And don’t forget that there’s a lot more to fluency than just Duolingo.
